Kathmandu, July 21
Talks between Speaker Onsari Gharti and top leaders of three major political parties ended on an inconclusive note on Thursday afternoon.
Speaker Gharti had convened the informal meeting at her office in a bid to make the three parties — the Nepali Congress, the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre — reach an agreement so that there’s no confrontation in the Parliament when its meeting begins. At 2 pm on Thursday, as per an earlier schedule, the Parliament will start discussions on the no-confidence motion against the KP Oli government.
At the meeting, the top leaders refused to budge from their respective stances.
PM Oli demanded to know how three Bills, that were earlier on the House’s business schedule, vanished. He wanted to know whether or not removal of such business requires some basis.
Also the UML Chair, PM Oli said the three Bills should be agenda of the Parliament. A leader participating in the meeting quoted Oli as saying: Pass those Bills or reject them, but make those Bills an agenda of the House.
Congress and Centre leaders, on the other hand, demanded that Speaker push forth the process for no-confidence motion against hte government.
