Nepali Congress general secretary Sashank Koirala’s condition remains critical, but stable, doctors tending to the senior politician said few hours after he was rushed to Hospital.
According to family sources, Koirala, who is the son of Nepali Congress party co-founder BP Koirala, suffered from food poisoning after eating pizza on Tuesday night and vomited profusely.
Om Hospital, Chabahil, where Koirala is being treated, said in a statement on Wednesday morning that he is now on ventilator, intoropic/vasopressor support. Although there are no problems in his heart, extensive pneumonia has been observed on the left lung, the hospital said.
“At present his medical condition is critically ill with stable vital signs under advanced life support,” the hospital said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Oli, NC President Sher Bhadur Deuba, and senior leader Ramchandra Paudel visited the hospital early this morning to take stock of Koirala’s health.

The hospital, in an update in the afternoon, said reports show derangement in liver and renal function. Koirala’s doctors say fluid and food particles entered his trachea and made it to the lungs when he vomited, and this resulted in chest infection.
“Provisional diagnosis after medical board review: Aspiration pneumonia leading to septic shock and multi organ dysfunction At present his condition with advanced life support,” the hospital said.
Dr Lava Joshi, one of the doctors involved in Koirala’s treatment told Onlinekhabar that it would not be possible to airlift Koirala to a hospital abroad at the moment. He is yet to regain consciousness.
