Nepal: 52 Health Ministry staffers get the boot for leave rule breach

Health-ministry

Kathmandu, July 7

The Ministry of Health fired 52 of its employees in the fiscal 2072-73 for flouting rules, deeming them ineligible for government service in the future. Most of those fired are staff nurses. Baburam Gautam, under-secretary at the ministry, said the ministry took action against the employees in question after they remained absent from their work stations without taking leave.

The ministry said its action is in keeping with Sub-clause 1 of Clause 72 (Kha), Nepal health Service Act 2053.

As per the Act, government employees can be fired if they stay absent for more than 60 days without applying for leave and getting it approved.
