Nepal vs MCC: Meet the players representing ‘world’s oldest’ cricket club

Kathmandu, July 19

Nepal’s national cricket team is playing against the UK’s Marylebone Cricket Club at Lord’s, on Tuesday to mark 200 years of Nepal-UK diplomatic relations. The world’s oldest cricket club is fielding a mix of youth and experience against the Nepali side. Here we have short profiles of the playing XI for the English squad.

keith dutch

Keith Dutch (Captain, ex-Middlesex and Somerset CCC)

Forty-three-year-old Dutch right-hand batsman, who also bowls off-breaks. He has played 72 First Class matches and 168 List A matches. He has a century to his name in First Class cricket.

glenn philipps

Glenn Phillips (MCC Young Cricketers)

Nineteen-year-old Phillips is from New Zealand, and he is part of the MCC’s Young Cricketers’ programme. Phillips is a hard-hitting right-hand batsman who also keeps wickets.

James Overy (Brondesbury CC)

Overy plays for Brondesbury Cricket Club. He has opened for MCC on a number of occasions.

Clinton Perren (ex-Australia A and Queensland)

Perren is the most experienced player in the MCC squad. Aged 41, he has played 84 First class and 105 List A matches. He has 10 centuries in his name in First Class cricket.

coles

Mike Coles (Wiltshire CCC)
Coles is a 34-year-old right-had batsman. He scored 155 runs for his club Wiltshire, against Harford Salisbury in August 2015.

steven

Steve Clark (Hampstead CC)

This 33-year-old right-hand batsman has captained Hampstead Cricket Club. His highest score in first class-cricket is 49, just one short of a half-century!

adair

George Adair (Hampstead CC)
This 27-year-old is a hard-hitting opening batsman. One of his best innings was against the Melbourne Cricket Club (another MCC! in July 2015). He scored 57 off 72 balls.

Richard Wilkinson (Alderley Edge CC)

Thrirty-three-year-old Wilkinson is an all-rounder. On his Twitter profile, he describes himself as “cricketer, cyclist and all round sports tourist.” He was also part of the MCC team that toured Nepal after last year’s quake.

Chad Barrett (Ex-MCC Young Cricketer)

Twenty-seven-year-old Barrett is a right-arm medium pacer. A member of the MCC’s Young Cricketer programme, Barrett has only played one First-class match (Northamptonshire v Sri Lankans at Northampton, Jun 5-8, 2014).  Although he did not pick up any wicket in the match, he took two catches, one being that of Kumar Sangakara. Barrett was part of the MCC’s tour to Uganda as well.

Marc Reingold (Stanmore CC)

Born in May 1969, Reingold has captained Stanmore Cricket Club. The veteran bowler is handy with the ball and has a knack for taking wickets at crucial moments of the game.

Alex Senneck (UK Armed Forces CC) 

The 40-year-old right-arm pacer Alex Senneck is a member of the British Army. He was also part of the MCC’s tour of Nepal after the earthquake last year.
