Kathmandu, July 27
The United States has said Nepal’s main challenge is to make the recently promulgated constitution ‘more perfect’.
President Obama’s digital media adviser and Coordinator of the United States Department of State Bureau of International Information Programs Macon Phillips, who was interacting with journalists in Kathmandu, earlier today said, “As Nepal continues to take a democratic path to implement the constitution and guarantee and protect the rights of its citizens, the US urges all Nepalis to commit to the challenge of making their own federal constitution more perfect.”
Macon, who was speaking at a program organised by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, said the United States wants to see credible and legitimate elections in Nepal that reflect the will of the people and is ready to commit resources to guarantee that elections meet international standards.
The senior US official also stressed on the importance of a vibrant civil society and free press in a democratic society.
