Police in Gorkha district of northern Nepal have arrested eight Chinese nations after they were found to be working in Nepal without obtaining a permit.
SP Som Prasad Adhikari says they were working for the proposed Upper Budhigandaki Hydropower Project in Soti, Aarughat rural municipality-3 of the district. The arrestees have been sent to the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu for further action, according to him.
A few of them even do not have passports, Adhikari informs, adding the arrest was made after they failed to show their documents when asked. He claims the police in the district have launched an operation against suspicious activities of foreigners here.
It has been learned that they had come to Nepal to test soil for the preliminary survey of the proposed project.
