Kathmandu, August 11
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is likely to retain National Reconstruction Authority CEO Sushil Gyawali, at least for now.
Gywali was appointed to the post in December 2015 by the erstwhile KP Oli government following an inter-party row over the bill to form the authority. Prachanda is not in the mood to sack Gyawali, at least for 45 days, despite pressure from coalition partner Nepali Congress, sources say.
According to sources, neither Prachanda nor Finance Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara has pressed Gyawali to do anything but speed up the aid distribution process. The Cabinet’s first meeting had decided to finish distributing the first installment of the Rs 200,000 reconstruction aid within 45 days.
Outgoing Prime Minister KP Oli is part of the governing body of the authority in his capacity as the leader of the opposition, and Prime Minister Prachanda does not want to annoy him at least for now, sources say.
