Theft at Singhadurbar: iPad, laptop, one lakh rupees ‘stolen’ from Under-secretary’s chamber

Sinhadarbar-Checking-1

Kathmandu, July 27

An incident that occurred on Wednesday has shown that not even Singhadurbar, the government secretariat, is immune from theft and other security breaches.

Under-secretary at the Ministry of Local Development, Chiranjivi Timalsina, said his iPhone, laptop and one lakh rupees in cash went ‘missing’ from his office chamber.

He said: After entering the office chamber, I put my belongings there and went to attend a meeting. But when I returned to the chamber after the meeting, my belongings and cash were gone. Timalsina said he had brought one lakh rupees for loan repayment.

Other employees also said the cash and the belongings got stolen. But it’s unclear as to who stole them. In a bid to find the thief, police subjected all of the ministry’s employees to body search.

After finding nothing during the search, police were frisking people exiting the government secretariat through the South Gate. Except for ministers’ vehicles, police were subjecting all other motorised vehicles, cycles and pedestrians to search. And they have also stepped up security at Singhadurbar.
