Bidur, October 30
A passenger died on the spot, while another passenger was injured when a bus (Ba 3 Kha 2000) bound for Jorchautara from Tarukaghat, Nuwakot, met with an accident at Taruka VDC-1 on Sunday. Police identified the deceased as Bimala Sarki (17) of Taruka-5. The injured, Bishnu Adhikari of Koldanda, Taruka-3, is receiving treatment at a hospital. Other passengers are said to be normal.
Bisnu Taruke, an eyewitness and journalist, said the bus started sliding down after its brakes failed on a steep stretch. Bimala jumped off the moving bus to save her life, only to be crushed by the bus, Taruke said.
It is learnt that the bus met with the accident because the road was in poor shape and was carrying passengers beyond its capacity, in view of an increase in the number of homewardbound passengers during the festival of Tihar. Police have taken the bus driver and helper under control.
