Kathmandu, March 4
A total of 375 candidates have registered their candidatures for 64 positions for which elections will take place during the Nepali Congress’ 13th general convention. Ramchandra Poudel, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Krishna Prasad Sitaula are in the fray for the post of party President. For the position of general secretary, Team Poudel has registered the candidature of Shashank Koirala, while Team Deuba and Team Sitaula have registered the candidatures of Arjun Narsingh KC and Gagan Thapa. The deadline for nomination ended at 12.00 on Friday.
Four candidates for treasurer position
Though there are three panels vying for leadership positions, there are four candidates for the post of treasurer. Poudel panel has fielded Sita Devi, Deuba panel has fielded Chitra Lekha Yadav and Sitaula panel has fielded Uma Kanta Chaudhary. Krishna Karki from Syangja is contesting the race for treasurer’s position as an independent candidate.
In the open category, 94 candidates have registered candidatures for 25 central working committee positions.
The NC jamboree will elect 14 CWC members from provinces, two each from every province. A total of 102 candidates are in the race for these positions.
There are six positions reserved for women, for which 40 candidates are in the fray. Twenty-one Dalit candidates are vying for three seats reserved for Dalits. There are two seats reserved for Dalit women and six candidates are fighting for these positions.
The Congress CWC has three seats reserved for indigenous nationalities. Fifty candidates are vying for these positions. For women from indigenous nationalities, Congress has two seats reserved at the CWC. Fourteen candidates are vying for the two seats.
While 18 candidates are fighting for three seats reserved for Madheshis. Ten candidates are contesting for two seats reserved for Madheshi women, while 10 candidates have registered candidatures for one CWC seat reserved for Muslims.
