Kathmandu, March 11
The energy ministry has requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to propose to the Chinese government that concessional loan be given to Nepal to construct the 1200 MW Budhigandaki hydro project.
Energy ministry sources say if the proposal is approved, the issue will figure during bilateral talks when Prime Minister KP Oli visits China later this month.
“We have also sent a proposal to seek Chinese funding for Kimathanka Arun and Sunkoshi III,” an energy ministry source told Onlinekhabar.
According to government estimates, the project will cost around Rs 250 billion. The parliamentary committee on water resources had proposed that the project be built utilising domestic resources.
