Biratnagar, May 9
A group identifying itself as ‘victims’ of Nepal courts’ injustice organised a press conference in Biratnagar on Monday.
At the press meet, they demanded settlement of insurgency-era court cases as per the spirit of the comprehensive peace agreement of 2006. They demanded scrapping of all court cases of that time in keeping with the nine-point agreement reached between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and UCPN-Maoist Chair Prachanda on May 5.
Baburam Gautam, coordinator of an association comprising these ‘victims’, threatened to launch a decisive movement if the government does not bother to implement the nine-point understanding.
He demanded settlement of conflict-era cases through Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
On the occasion, Suresh Kumar Rai, a UCPN-Maoist politburo member, stressed the need to resolve conflict-era cases politically.
It was informed at the programme that there are around 40,000 court cases pending against Maoist leaders and cadres.
