Kathmandu, May 19
Matrika Yadav, the leader of a Maoist splinter, has agreed to merge his party with the UCPN-Maoist. On Thursday, there will be an announcement on the merger of different Maoist parties with the Prachanda-led UCPN-Maoist.
This unification will take place at Karki party palace in Babar Mahal at 3 pm, UCPN-Maoist leader Janardan Sharma ‘Prabhakar’ told Onlinekhabar, adding that Matrika Yadav will also go for merger.
On Thursday, Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal’s Reconstituted CPN-Revolutionary Maoist, Matrika Yadav-led CPN-Maoist, Mani Thapa-led Revolutionary Communist Party and some leaders from the Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Maoist party are formally announcing their merger with the Prachanda-led party. Yadav was first unwilling to join Prachanda’s party. UCPN-Maoist leaders are learnt to have made a lot of efforts to bring him on board, even as some leaders were against bringing him in.
Jayapuri Gharti, a leader, who had remained politically inactive after leaving Prachanda’s party, is rejoining the party on Thursday.
This unification is in keeping with the UCPN-Maoist’s policy on polarisation of leftist forces. While Badal-led faction of the Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Revolutionary Maoist is joining Prachanda’s party, leaders, including Mohan Baidhya, CP Gajurel and Hari Bhakta Kandel have refused to hop onto the unification bandwagon.
