Glimpses of Teej: The festival of dance, songs, feast, fast, prayers

tj3

Kathmandu, September 4

Women in several parts of the country are celebrating Teej today by singing, dancing, offering prayers to Lord Shiva and fasting, often without paying due regard to their health, wishing for longevity and prosperity of their husbands and their families, a day after having a feast called Dar. Unmarried ones are also joining in celebrations, often out of curiosity and driven by the desire to be part of the tradition.

At different street corners and squares in the Kathmandu Valley, women and young girls, mostly clad in red, are busy dancing to the tune of Teej songs.

Onlinekhabar caught glimpses of this colourful festival. Wishing you all a happy Teej, here we go: tj2

At Gaushala, there was a long line of women, waiting patiently to enter Pashupatinath Temple and offer prayers to Lord Mahadeva.

Scriptures point Goddess Parvati observed fast, wishing to get Lord Mahadeva as her husband. And her wish came true!
