Kathmandu, March 6
The local administration has imposed a ban on smoking and boozing around the Pashupatinath Temple during Mahashivaratri, which falls on Monday. In a notice published on Sunday, the Kathmandu district administration office said it has banned storage, transportation, sale and consumption of meat, alcoholic beverages, marijuana and other addictive substances.
Kathmandu chief district officer Ram Krishna Subedi said the ban is a bid to maintain the sanctity of the area. He said those violating the ban will face action under Local Administration Act 2028 BS.
