Kathmandu, October 6
It’s unclear whether or not local elections will happen in the next 5-6 months, but an official with the Election Commission, tasked with conducting three-tier elections — local, provincial and federal — is surely walking down the aisle with SY Quraishi, former chief election commissioner of India, if reports in Indian newspapers The Telegraph and The Indian Express are anything to go by.
The newspapers reported that romance between Quraishi and Sharma blossomed after they met while taking part in an international seminar on politics and money in Mexico in September last year.
The reports have claimed that Sharma (49) and Quraishi (69) will tie the know this week itself.
Quraishi told the Indian media that their marriage had to be deferred twice for some reason or the other.
Quraishi is a divorcee, whereas Sharma lost her husband, Nepal Police Inspector Navaraj Poudel, in a Maoist attack in Panchkatiya, Jajarkot, 15 years ago.
Talking to Onlinekhabar, Sharma said she met Quraishi during an international conference in Mexico last year. But she refuted the reports in the Indian media about her ‘soon-to-be-solemnised marriage’ with Quraishi.
