Kathmandu, April 23

The main opposition party CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli said he was positive about the proposal to hold local level elections in two phases.

The former Prime Minister, however, refused to comment on revisions proposed to the constitution amendment bill following an agreement between ruling parties and the Madheshi Morcha on Saturday.

Receiving Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to his residence in Balkot of Bhaktapur today, the opposition leader said he would decide whether to support or oppose the revisions after going through them once.

Oli also said the government could move ahead with the amendment process even if his party opposed the bill, a source at the PM’s Secretariat informed after the meeting.

After the 20-minute one-on-one meeting with Oli, Dahal has been hopeful that the constitution amendment bill can be passed with two-third majority votes and the polls can be held in two phases, according to the source.
