PM Oli: BRI projects will be implemented

Kathmandu, December 8

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasised the significance of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for shared prosperity, asserting that BRI projects will be implemented in Nepal.

In an interview with China Media Group (CMG) prior to his return from China, Oli stated that the BRI aims to promote common development and prosperity among participating nations, and it holds great importance for Nepal as well.

“The BRI proposal from China is highly commendable and significant. Many countries have welcomed it, and Nepal is also committed to the shared construction under the BRI framework,” Oli remarked.

In a video interview released on Saturday by CMG’s Nepali service, Oli disclosed that Nepal and China signed 9–10 critical agreements under the BRI framework to achieve shared objectives.

He also reflected on his productive meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on December 3, where they exchanged views on bilateral relations. “The discussions were pleasant and fruitful,” Oli noted.

During Oli’s visit, Nepal and China signed the BRI framework agreement, which the Prime Minister described as a comprehensive “umbrella” agreement.

“This framework encompasses various projects and will be implemented. It addresses political, economic, social, cultural, educational, health, and infrastructure development sectors,” Oli explained.

Highlighting his third visit to China as Prime Minister, Oli called the trip highly successful and productive.
