The price of gold surged significantly on Thursday, setting a new record in Nepal’s market.
Gold rose by Rs 5,700 per tola in a single day, following a Rs 2,000 increase the previous day. The price, which stood at Rs 175,400 per tola on Wednesday, reached Rs 181,100 today — the highest rate recorded to date. The previous peak was Rs 180,300 per tola, set last Friday.
Silver also saw an increase of Rs 65, climbing from Rs 1,835 to Rs 1,900 per tola.
The price hike in the international market is attributed to US President Donald Trump’s announcement on Wednesday to suspend reciprocal tariffs on more than 75 countries for 90 days. This decision led to a more than 4 per cent surge in global gold prices, which have now exceeded $3,100 per ounce.
