Nawalparasi, May 17
Nepali Congress candidate Laxmi Pandey is probably the first ever woman candidate to get elected to the post of Chairperson in the local level elections held on Sunday.
Pandey garnered 4,593 votes to become elected the chief of Hupsekot Rural Municipality whereas her contender Megh Bahadur Pulami of CPN-UML secured 4,358 votes.
Similarly, UML candidate Kopila Malla secured 4,468 votes to become the vice-chairperson of Hupsekot. Her rival Om Thapa of NC secured 4,413 votes.
