Kathmandu, June 16
Supporters of the agitated Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal continue to enforce an indefinite strike in Province 2, even as party leaders and the government were reported to have reached an understanding to postpone polling in the region.
On Friday, the fourth day of the strike, RJP supporters vandalised a bus used by police in Siraha. In Nawalparasi, they torched the Nepali Congress’ flag and its publicity materials.
In Biratnagar (Province 1), 15 RJP supporters who were trying to padlock the local election office have been arrested. In Mahottari, they vandalised the office of the Upendra Yadav-led Forum-Nepal, which has already decided to contest the elections.
