Kathmandu, April 17
The meeting of Party Unification Coordination Committee attended by top leaders of the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre could not get sufficient time to discuss contentious issues blocking their unification today.
The meeting instead was more focused on clearing confusions, misunderstandings and subsequent trust deficits seen between the two parties.
During the meeting, Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal criticised UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, claiming he took many serious decisions unilaterally.
Dahal said Oli decided to keep the National Investigation Department under the Prime Minister’s Office after Maoist leader Ram Bahadur Thapa was appointed the Minister of Home Affairs. Similarly, the UML did not talk with the Maoist Centre.
Meanwhile, the meeting assigned top leaders–Oli and Dahal–to settle disputed issues, according to Maoist Centre leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
However, it has been almost certain that the two parties would not unify on April 17 as they had agreed earlier.
The two parties have disagreements on three key issues including whether to mention ‘people’s war’ in the party statute, what the election symbol will be and what the ratio of two parties in the unified central committee will be.
