NCP secretariat meeting fails to finalise by-election candidate
A secretariat meeting of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) which took place on Saturday has failed to finalise the candidates for by-elections to be held on November 30.
According to NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the meeting discussed the names of possible candidates for the by-elections. However, he added that that final decision would be made on Sunday.
PM Oli says he will need a new kidney
PM KP Sharma Oli has said that he is not critically ill. However, he has said that his kidney isn’t working properly leaving him with two options – regular dialysis or new transplant. PM Oli told this to the NCP secretariat meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar. He had spent two days at Grande International Hospital to undergo dialysis last week. At the meeting, he told NCP leaders that doctors were planning another dialysis in the coming days.

NCP chooses Bidya Bhattarai to contest Kaski–2 by-election
Nepal Communist Party has decided that Bidya Bhattarai will contest in the Kaski-2 by-election for a post of the House of Representatives member. Bhattarai is the wife of deceased Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari. According to a source, all Secretariat members were happy with Bhattarai contesting the election. Rest of the candidates for the by-elections in other constituencies will be made of Sunday. The post of lawmaker of Kaski-2 has been vacant since the untimely death of Adhikari on a helicopter crash earlier this year.
NCP student union sacks former central member amid rape charges
All Nepal National Free Students Union has said that Indra Hang Rai has been removed from the union. Rai was the central member of the ruling party’s wing.
Rai has been accused of raping a girl at his relative’s house in Makalbari of Kathmandu during Tihar. He was arrested in Gokarneshwar Municipality on Tuesday. The Free Students Union of Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, Kathmandu, had sacked Rai after rape charges were labelled against him. He was the campus unions’ joint-secretary.

Gamblers withdraw habeas corpus petition
The gamblers who had moved to the Supreme Court (SC) with a habeas corpus petition claiming their detention was illegal have withdrawn the petition on Friday. They withdrew the petition saying that they could not gather enough proof to prove their detention to be illegal. The Kathmandu District Administration Office on Thursday had remanded the gamblers in seven-day custody starting from the date of arrest. A police squad from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj on Sunday had arrested 25 gamblers and confiscated Rs 2.67 million in cash.
Nepal Army buys cargo plane
Nepal Army has brought a medium fixed-wing cargo plane from Indonesia. The aircraft landed at Tribhuvan International Airport on Saturday. Nepal Army informed that the cargo plane was purchased to supply disaster-related relief materials. However, the army also plans to use the plane for military training. Nepal Army bought the 52-seater plane for $300 million.
