Kathmandu, December 20

In the run-up to the ambitious Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign, Nepalis working and living in the United Arab Emirates have demanded that the Nepal government launch a special scheme to attract tourists from the Middle East region.

Speaking at an interaction organised by the VNY 2020 secretariat and Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, they said the plan should address interests and wishes for the potential tourists.

Ekendra Thapa, a Nepali who operates a travel agency in the UAE, said Nepal should partner with the UAE not only in labour, but also in tourism and other economic dimensions.

Shashi Silwal, a leader of a Nepali diaspora organisation, said Nepal should promote itself as a natural destination in front of the Gulf people. Likewise, Prakash Paudel suggested that Nepal promote its attractions during local fares in the UAE.

The speakers also said they were committed to supporting the government in the campaign.
