Kathmandu, May 19
In a rare incident of Nepal’s parliamentary history, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has addressed the House of Representatives meeting sitting in a chair on the rostrum on Wednesday afternoon.
Oli was scheduled to respond to the lawmakers’ queries on the government’s annual policy and programme for the next fiscal year. After speaking for nearly 30 minutes standing, he asked Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota if there was an option saying he felt difficult to standing longer.
In response, Sapkota suggested he could back to his seat in the column of ruling party lawmakers. But, Oli insisted that he would like to address from the rostrum so that he could see all the lawmakers.
Then, the Parliament Secretariat staff brought a new armchair for him, and Oli continued his address.
Oli had had his second kidney transplantation in March. The doctors had advised him to have enough rest, but apparently he has been ignoring the advice.
