Pokhara, December 13
A team formed to investigate the fatal fall of a paraglider in Pokhara, Nepal’s tourism capital, last month has concluded that the pilot’s attempt to pick a flower from a plant resulted into the accident.
Pilot Raju Gaire Nepali had died in the incident whereas his client, a lady from Kathmandu, had sustained critical injuries in the November 23 incident. Following that, Nepal Airsports Association (NAA) had commissioned a five-member team led by its vice-president Narayan Prasad Parajuli.
The report says the pilot lost his grasp on the brake of his machine as he tried to pick a flower and hand it over to the passenger, resulting in an imbalance and subsequent spin. Then, the glider fell at a high speed.
The team also submitted its report to the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority, the governing body of all aviation activities including airports, recently. The authority has also formed a separate team to look into the case, giving a deadline of 30 days.
