Kathmandu, February 8
The Election Commission has assigned newly appointed commissioner, Ram Prasad Bhandari, to investigate into the dispute between two factions of the recently split Nepal Communist Party over their legitimacy.
Bhandari was appointed into the commission last week through a controversial decision of the Constitutional Council chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Further, he is said to be close to Oli faction’s general secretary Bishnu Paudel.
A meeting of the commissioners held on Friday made the decision. A commission official claims distributing responsibilities among the commissioners is natural, arguing Bhandari was given the responsibility as he was from the legal background.
After the decision, Bhandari has already studied the application submitted by the Dahal-Nepal faction, demanding a legitimate recognition as the party.
