A consignment of medical equipment and supplies from Italy arrived early Friday morning to support Nepal fight the second wave of the pandemic through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs the Italian consignment contains 20 ventilators, 6,000 isolation gowns and 10,000 protective overalls.

European Union Ambassador to Nepal Nona Deprez, along with the Honorary Consul to Italy Pratima Pande, handed over the medical support to Health Ministry’s Chief Specialist Dr Roshan Pokhrel, at a brief ceremony held at the Tribhuvan International Airport this morning.

The Ambassadors of Germany and France also participated in the ceremony.

Italy is among the 12 EU member states responding to Nepal’s call for assistance to fight the pandemic, according to the EU Delegation to Nepal. “More support is expected soon from Lithuania and Germany.”

“As long-standing friends and partners, the EU and its member states support Nepal during these difficult times. These medical supplies will help against the spread of Covid-19 and alongside public health measures will help save precious lives across Nepal,” Deprez said during the event.
