Kathmandu, September 23
The China Cultural Center in Nepal has launched a virtual event Mid-Autumn Festival: A Moonmoment to Remember with an aim to promote cultural exchanges between the people of two countries.
This online event is organised to mark the Mid-Autumn or Moon festival, the second most important festival in China, after the Chinese New Year, which traditionally falls on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar.
The virtual event is ongoing from September 18 to 25, and interested people can join the event on Facebook, Instagram, and WeChat.
The virtual celebration in Nepal integrates elements of virtual tours, online concerts, short videos, and micro classes to present various aspects of the festival including culture, customs, inheritance and entertainment to the Nepal people, the centre informs.
The festival is celebrated by Chinese people by admiring and worshipping the full moon, gathering for family dinners, lighting paper lanterns and most importantly eating mooncakes.
The full moon is the symbol of family reunions in Chinese culture, while full the moon on the night of the Mid-Autumn festival is regarded as the brightest and the most beautiful one.
According to the China Cultural Center based in Kathmandu, its colourful digital event will allow the Nepali people “to truly feel the profoundness of the festival by staying at home itself and to appreciate the unique charm of Chinese culture.”
