Kathmandu, January 29

Chief district officers of the Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts have partially taken back their decision to impose the odd-even rule on the movement of vehicles citing the increasing Covid-19 cases.

Whereas the officials had decided last week that only the vehicles with odd number plates can play on odd dates as per the Nepali calendar and the even ones on even dates, stakeholders had commented it did not help control crowds as intended. In contrast, there were reports that the rule made public vehicles more crowded with their numbers halved.

In this context, the valley administrators held a meeting on Friday to revise the odd-even rule and lifted the restriction imposed on public vehicles. Private vehicles including two-wheelers and taxis, however, will still need to follow the rule.

Meanwhile, other restrictions about the operation of different businesses are still the same until the next notice.
