Kathmandu, February 15
The government has collected Rs 754. 5 million in outstanding taxes from casinos operating in Nepal in the past seven months.
According to records of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation unveiled on Monday, the government collected the amount in application fees, renewal fees and royalties since the beginning of the current fiscal year 2021/22 (mid-July 2021).
Of late, the ministry has expedited action against casinos failing to pay taxes. Just a few days back, the government has ordered the five-star Hotel Yak & Yeti to shut its operation as it did not pay outstanding taxes.
Meanwhile, the amount of bank guarantees of casinos has also increased this year significantly.
In these seven months, the total amount of bank guarantees has reached Rs 142 million.
