Kathmandu, March 9
The government is auctioning off 20 drones it had earlier confiscated for their illegal use on different occasions.
Whereas the Nepal Police confiscates illegally used UAVs in Nepal, the rules have it that the confiscated devices have to be submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. Hence, the authority is planning to auction off 20 drones it currently has.
The authority issued a public notice on Wednesday calling for bids. The 20 drones will be sold in bulk to a single buyer. The bidders will have to commit a minimum of Rs 759,408 for the purchase and apply within the next 15 days.
The country’s rules have it that a drone user has to register the device at the authority whereas some places such as heritage sites have been protected from the use. In case the rules are violated, the police might confiscate them.
