Rukum West, May 13
A voter has died after being hit by a ward chairperson candidate in the Rukum West district of Karnali during the local elections on Friday.
The victim has been identified as Pravin Khatri (70), a resident of Banphikot rural municipality-7 in the district. He was hit by the vehicle (Lu 3 Cha 3310) being used by Janak Bantha Magar, the Nepali Congress ward chair candidate, while he was heading towards his voting booth.
He died during treatment at the Salle Hospital in the district.
Police have arrested the vehicle driver Devraj Shahi for further investigation and action.
Meanwhile, the CPN-Maoist Centre has claimed the incident was premeditated by the Nepali Congress.
“The Congress and UML, which have partnered with the Maoist Centre, have been attacking us. This incident is a part of this,” the Maoist party’s Karnali provincial chairperson Bimala KC says.
KC and Maoist leader Janardan Sharma are currently at the hospital in Rukum West.
