Chitwan, June 9
Police in the Chitwan district have arrested one person on the charge of gang-raping a woman repeatedly for two months.
Purna Ghalan (45), a resident of Chaudhaghare, Hetaunda-9 in the neighbouring Makawanpur district, has been accused of gang-raping a woman in the Rapti municipality of Chitwan.
Other three persons involved in the crime are on the run, and a search is underway, informs the District Police Office spokesperson Narahari Adhikari.
The four have been accused of holding the woman hostage for two months and sexually exploiting her.
A 27-year-old woman, who would work in Kathmandu but had recently gone to Chitwan to meet her relatives, had filed a complaint against Ghalan, according to police.
As per the complaint, she was taken hostage from March 24 to June 3.
She told the police that when she took off a public bus at the Bhandara station in Rapti on the evening of March 24, Ghalan told her that she could not reach her sister-in-law’s house at Piple the same night as it was too far. Then, he captivated her and invited three other friends to rape her.
After she fell sick, the suspects had released her last week only.
