Biratnagar, April 11
The Biratnagar metropolitan city has decided to ban the use of tobacco products in public places, effective from this Friday (April 14).
The city government says cigarettes, khaini, gutka and all smoking and chewing tobacco products cannot be used in the city area from the day of Nepali New Year.
Likewise, from the same day, motorists will also be barred from honking pressure horns, informs Mayor Nagesh Koirala.
Koirala says the city government made the decision as it is imperative to make the only metropolitan city of the Koshi province well-managed and civilised.
“Biratnagar belongs to all of us. Together, we shall make it well-managed and civilised,” he says.
Kathmandu also made a similar decision last year, but, apparently, it exists in paper only.
