Kathmandu, May 2
The National Statistics Office (erstwhile Central Bureau of Statistics) has forecast that the country’s economic growth rate this fiscal year would be restricted to 2.16 per cent.
This forecast from a government agency is even lower than the projections of multilateral financial institutions such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. The two institutions have projected an equal 4.1 per cent growth.
The Ministry of Finance in the annual budget plan for the year had fixed an 8 per cent growth target although the government has already accepted that it was impossible.
But, the Statistics Office says the economic growth rate would be one-fourth of the initial target.
