Jhapa, September 27
As many as 17 people have lost their lives to dengue since mid-July in Koshi Province. Government days 30,330 people have been infected during the same period.
Sunsari district has witnessed the highest number of dengue cases where 13 people have died. The district has seen 19,432 cases, said the Public Health Officer of Koshi Province Health Directorate Dhankuta, Bibechana Chamlagain.
The dengue infection has spread across all 14 districts of Koshi Province. According to Chamlagain, Morang has reported 4,242 cases of dengue infection, resulting in one fatality. In Jhapa, 2,964 individuals have tested positive for dengue, with two fatalities recorded so far. Additionally, one person has succumbed to dengue infection in Udayapur.
Dengue-infected patients are currently receiving treatment at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Sunsari, as well as in both private and public hospitals across various districts.
Terhathum district currently reports 211 cases of infection, Panchthar 338, Ilam 535, Udayapur 816, Dhankuta 432, Bhojpur 331, Sankhuwasabha 867, Okhaldhunga 40, Taplejung 33, Khotang 45, and Solukhumbu 20.
In response to the dengue outbreak, all local governments in the province have initiated anti-dengue campaigns. Despite these efforts, the incidence of dengue infection continues to surge in the province.
