Kathmandu Metropolitan City issues 2-day ultimatum to Chandbagh School over encroached land

Kathmandu, August 12

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has issued a two-day ultimatum to Chandbagh School, directing it to vacate 10 ropanis of public land that it has allegedly encroached upon in Ward No. 3.

The KMC’s directive comes as part of its ongoing public land protection campaign. Municipal police, through loudspeaker announcements, informed the school of the requirement to vacate the land within 48 hours.

The land in question was originally transferred to Champion Footwear in two phases—6 ropanis on August 22, 1987, and an additional 4 ropanis on December 3, 1987—based on a decision by the then-chairperson of Bansbari Leather Shoe Factory. However, on March 22, 2024, the land was re-registered under the government’s name.

On July 24, 2024, the Land Reform and Survey Office in Dillibazar officially transferred the land’s ownership records to Ward No. 3 of KMC. Following this, the ward office notified Chandbagh School to vacate the property.

Despite previous warnings, the KMC has now set a strict deadline for the school to comply. A municipal police officer stated, “If the land is not vacated within two days, we will proceed with forcible eviction.”

The ultimatum highlights KMC’s commitment to reclaiming public land and ensuring its proper use for the community.
