Tea exports from the Mechi Customs Office have increased by 52 per cent in the first two months of the current financial year 2081/82 BS. A total of 4,412 metric tons of tea was exported in August and September this financial year, which is 52 per cent more than the corresponding period last year.

President of the Nepal Tea Producers’ Association, Aditya Parajuli, stated that the increase in Nepal’s tea exports is attributed to a decrease in tea production in South India. He added that tea exports from Nepal are likely to increase further this year due to rising demand from India.
In the last financial year 2080/81BS, a total of 13,433 metric tons of tea worth Rs. 3.16 billion was exported to India. The amount of tea exported last year was 7.68 per cent less compared to the previous financial year.
