Kathmandu, November 20

The Film Southasia, a biennial festival of South Asian documentaries, is all set to kick off from Thursday at Yalamaya Kendra, Lalitpur.

The four-day-long festival will feature 47 documentaries that showcase human activities and their interconnectedness with nature. This year’s Film Southasia will showcase documentaries from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, and even one from Mongolia, although that country is in Central Asia. With over 2,000 submissions, FSA selected only 47. According to the organisers, producers and directors of 27 of the documentaries will be attending the festival.

The festival, themed  Documentary in Anthropocene, will showcase films exploring the complex relationship between humans and nature, with a particular focus on the impacts of climate change.

Additionally, the festival will feature a Director Workshop with filmmaker Kabir Khan and panel discussions on FSA’s slogan and the evolution and success of Nepali documentaries. These discussions and screenings will take place simultaneously. Two other master classes and a discussion on financing and editing with industry experts will also be held in collaboration with the British Council’s WOW (Women of the World) festival and audio-visual production company KathaHaru.
