The off-road, dual-sport, and dirt biking culture in Nepal has long been a thriving and ever-growing community, driven by the country’s diverse landscapes, challenging trails, and the adventurous spirit of its riders. Iconic models like the Honda XL series and the Hartford VR once dominated the scene, becoming favourites among enthusiasts. Over time, the culture and market have evolved, making way for modern dirt bikes in Nepal. One such exciting addition to this lineup is the Yamaha WR 155R, which is launched in Nepal.
Yamaha launched the WR 155R at the 2024 NADA Auto Show alongside the Yamaha MT-15 V2. The WR 155R is manufactured in Indonesia and has been popular in the Indonesian and Thai markets. The WR 155R replaces the Yamaha XTZ 150. The WR 155R is set to compete against the Honda XR 190L in Nepal.

Design
The Yamaha WR 155R carries the iconic Yamaha dirt bike styling with Yamaha’s signature blue colour. The front includes a raised mudguard with lines on the sides. The headlights are simple with an old-school vibe. The headlight and the indicators have halogen bulbs, which have a decent throw of light.

Coming to the side, the Yamaha WR 155R has an open engine compartment with a black-coloured frame. The sharp fairings on the sleek tank give a clean look. The 245 mm of ground clearance helps tackle off-road with ease along with the 880 mm of seat height. The single seat is blue-coloured too, which is comfortable enough for dirt roads. The long tail section helps in improved stability. The exhaust is on the left side, which gives a proper dirt bike sound.

The rear of the Yamaha WR 155R is simple with the pointed tail section. The small rear taillight is complemented by the rear halogen indicators and a short number plate holder.

The instrument cluster of the Yamaha WR 155R is a small LCD display on the right side that has the information for the speed, trip, rpm, fuel indicator, time, and gear indicator. On the left side of the cluster, there are 5 round light indicators for neutral, hazard lamp, high beam, engine light, and engine oil pressure light. The simple and small instrument cluster is great for dirt bikes, aiding in the off-road capability.

Performance
The Yamaha WR 155R has a 155 cc engine that delivers a maximum power of 12.3 kW at 10,000 rpm and a torque of 14.3 Nm at 6,500 rpm, which allows for smooth acceleration and consistent power across rough terrains. The 6-speed transmission and the wet multi-disc clutch provide easy gear shifts. The bike uses VVA technology that optimises valve timing for enhanced performance and efficiency, delivering power at both low and high RPM for versatile riding.

The Yamaha WR 155R has a semi-double cradle chassis that delivers stability and strength for tackling rough trails. It has hydraulic disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels for reliable stopping power.

The suspension system includes a telescopic fork at the front and a swing arm with a gas-charged shock absorber at the rear for optimal performance on difficult tracks. It is paired with tube tyres of size 2.75-21 45P at the front and 4.10-18 59P at the rear, which are designed for off-road use.
