Kathmandu, February 23
The Central Film Censorship Board has granted screening approval to the film Laaj Sharanam. Board Chairperson Gajendra Thakur issued a “Universal” certificate for the film on Sunday morning.
The board has set the film’s runtime at 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 52 seconds. Committee member Rishiraj Acharya stated that the film was approved for screening after making some corrections to specific scenes.
Arjun Ghimire ‘Pande,’ head of JPT Creation and one of the film’s actors, confirmed that the path is now clear for the film’s release on February 26 (Falgun 14).
Board Chairperson Thakur mentioned that the Patan High Court has not yet requested information regarding the board’s decision. However, he stated that if required, they would provide details as per the law.
Meanwhile, Arjun Prasad Acharya, spokesperson for the Patan High Court, clarified that since the censorship board is not a defendant in the case, there is no need for the court to seek information from them.
Last week, former minister Aftab Alam filed a writ petition objecting to the film’s characterization, leading the court to impose a temporary ban on its promotion before censorship approval. With the board’s decision, the film’s promotion can now proceed.
Directed by Kumar Kattel, Laaj Sharanam is set to release on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri on February 26.
