Kathmandu, September 22
The Department of Transport Management has written to the Department of Roads to halt the expansion of the Narayangadh-Mugling road from September 26 till October 16 in view of huge traffic pressure resulting from increased movement of homeward-bound people along the route during the upcoming festive season.
The DoTM pointed that continuing expansion work will only cause hardships to the passengers, asking the road department to halt the expansion work for 20 days.
Basanta Adhikari, spokesperson for DoTM, told Onlinekhabar they made the request bearing in mind hardships that passengers heading home will face due to traffic jam, due to which they may not even be able to reach home for festivals like Dashain.
Currently, the road department is patching puddles along the road, in a feeble bid to ensure passengers a smooth ride.
DoTM has asked the road department to engage only in repair and maintenance work, that too by shutting the road.
According to Adhikari, DoTM has also written to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Transport, asking it to halt the road construction work.
While starting advance ticket booking for Dashain, transporters had demanded that the road department should engage in repair and maintenance work by shutting the road.
