Kathmandu, November 10
Residents of Dhamaura village in Mahottari district gathered on Saturday to commemorate the second anniversary of Tej Narayan Singh, a beloved social worker, agriculturist, and founder of Dhamaura Higher Secondary School. Singh, who passed away at 85 in November 2022 after a long battle with prostate cancer, was remembered for his lifelong dedication to community development and education.
Dr Om Murti Anil, Singh’s son and a prominent cardiologist, spoke about his father’s advice to maintain a home in their native village, a legacy that has deepened his connection to his roots. In honour of Singh’s commitment to education, Dr Anil and his brothers donated Rs 511,111 to Shree Janata Rashtriya Secondary School, which their father founded in 1970 on donated land.
Speakers at the event, including former school principal Sushil Kumar Yadav and retired agricultural officer Kameshwar Jha, praised Singh’s transformative impact on rural education and modernising agriculture in the village. To further honour his legacy, Dr Anil’s foundation organised a free heart health camp for over 600 villagers, providing ECGs, blood pressure tests, and essential medications.
Local dignitaries, including Balwa Mayor Vijay Yadav, paid tribute to Singh, celebrating his commitment to education, agriculture, and community welfare.
