Free cardiac health checkup benefits 3,500 people in Gorkha

A total of 3,510 individuals underwent free heart health checkups at a two-day medical camp in Gorkha.

Binod Kumar Basnyat, President of the Rotary Club of Gorkha, stated that the camp, held at Gorkha Hospital, provided essential heart screenings to the general public. A team of 32 medical professionals, led by senior cardiologist Dr Anil Bhattarai from the Manmohan Cardio-Thoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre, conducted the examinations.

Dr. Bhattarai revealed that 28 individuals required heart surgery, with six needing immediate treatment. “We have referred them to the Manmohan Cardio-Thoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre for further care,” he said. During the camp, 413 patients underwent ECG tests, while 479 received echocardiograms.

The camp was organized by the Rotary Club of Gorkha and the Rotaract Club of Gorkha, in collaboration with Save the Heart, Manmohan Cardio-Thoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, and Gorkha Hospital. Free medicines were also provided based on patients’ needs.

Coordinator Kishor Jung Thapa confirmed that free surgery arrangements were made for all patients requiring it. The organizers estimated that medical services worth approximately five million rupees were provided through the camp.
