The Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City in Dang district has recognised Tharu language as its official language. Now onwards, locals of the Tharu-dominant city can file their applications in Tharu language to the local government.
A recent meeting of the Municipal Executive recognised the language spoken by most of citizens following a decision by the Municipal Council.
The decision will come into effect from the first day of next Nepali month Magh, which is on January 15.
The municipal office and all ward offices of the city will accept applications filed in Tharu language as the official ones from then, according to the Sub-Metropolitan City.
