The government has been appointed Hitendra Dev Shakya as the managing director of the government-run electricity distribution monopoly, Nepal Electricity Authority.

A cabinet meeting on Monday evening made the decision, informs a minister. Shakya was working as the officiating MD since November 2020.

The top position was vacant since the retirement of Kul Man Ghising in mid-September 2020. Ghising is credited for ending the regular power outage (load shedding) in the country.

Until November last year, Shakya was leading the NEA Engineering Company, a subsidiary of the authority. The company was established four years ago, and Ghising had assigned Shakya to lead it.

Shakya is considered an expert of electricity transmission lines. He had contributed to the development of the electricity transmission project to be implemented under the US government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation grant.
