Kathmandu, January 5
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa has accused the private sector of not helping the government at a time when the country is in crises.
Thapa said this while speaking at an interaction that Nepal Chamber of Commerce had organised in the Capital on Tuesday. “During the 1990’s blockade, the private sector helped the government. This time, it did not,” Thapa said. “Instead of helping the government, they (the private sector) threatened to hand over the keys of (businesses and industries) to the government, apparently to weaken the government.”
He lauded the people for helping the government in difficult times. This government has realigned ties with India and China, he claimed. “It’s wrong to seek transit rights with India. Now, we should sign a transit treaty with China as well,” he said.
Thapa said the current government is making preparations to sign a transit treaty with the northern neighbour, leaving behind the old mindset. At the programme, NCC President Rajesh Kaji Shrestha called the government to address problems plaguing the trade and commerce sector.
