India may propose construction of East-West Railway during Nepal PM Prachanda’s visit

India is likely to help Nepal with the construction of the 1030-km-long East-West Railway.

The two countries are currently in talks regarding the cost of the project.

The Hindu newspaper said India is making preparations to propose to Prachanda for construction of the project.

Addressing the Parliament, Nepal PM Prachanda had talked about the possibility of a bilateral agreement on the railway.

According to Indian officials, the two countries will discuss the railway joining Nepal’s Mechi zone with Mahakali zone during Nepal PM Prachanda’s visit to India.

The report quoted Indian Railway officials as saying that they want to expedite the ambitious project.
