Kathmandu, August 24
Basundhara-based Ishan Hospital and the family of Bikrishna Maharjan, who died in course of treatment at the hospital, reached a three-point agreement on Tuesday evening.
The two sides have agreed on release of those held during a protest on hospital premises after the death of the 3.5-year-old child and an investigation into the death (protesters had alleged that medical negligence was to blame for the child’s death). The two sides have agreed to form a seven-member committee comprising the hospital administration, the bereaved family and a representative from among consumers for investigating the case.
Bipin Jangam, the hospital’s senior administrative officer, said: As per the agreement, the committee will submit its report to the Nepal Medical Council within seven days. After the deal, the child’s body was sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj at 12.30 pm on Tuesday for a post-mortem.
